In 2011, Merit College
Preparatory Academy adopted Mtulu, a school in rural Kenya.
Since then, Merit's annual fundraising has built desperately
needed classrooms and bathroom facilities and purchased books
and supplies. Last year, Merit raised $5000 to feed Mtulu
students. Ninety miles from any urban center, Mtulu lies in the
driest, poorest region of Kenya. Mtulu's 500 students walk
between four and eight miles to school, often on empty stomachs.
Due to the recent famine, many of the Mtulu students were
without adequate nutrition.
This year, all
proceeds will go to purchase needed classroom materials, food,
and supplies for Mtulu students.
We
have partnered with Kenya Keys, an NGO devoted to the
development of Kenyan schools.100% of the money raised through
Merit goes directly to the Mtulu school. For 23 cents, we can
feed a child a meal, which means every dollar we raise has major
impact.
We encourage you
to join with us in our partnership with our sister school. These
are not Mtulu's students; they are our students, and this is our
